Why coir for commercial entrances
- It scrapes. Stiff natural coco fiber scrapes grit, salt and snow off shoes at the door.
- Thicknesses for busy entrances. We cut five thicknesses up to 1 1/4″, for deep commercial recessed wells and busy lobbies.
- The classic look. Natural coir suits hotels, brownstones, restaurants, and storefronts where rubber-edged synthetic matting looks wrong.
- Honest pricing. $9.50–13.50 per square foot by thickness, computed on your exact dimensions at checkout — comparable commercial coir typically runs $14–16 per square foot.

Specifying entrance matting
- Cover at least two full steps in the direction of travel — 30–36″ deep minimum for an entrance people walk straight through; more is better for wet climates.
- Span the full opening. Measure the doorway or vestibule width and add margin on each side. Single mats up to 33 ft wide mean no seams in most lobbies.
- Recessed wells: match mat thickness to pit depth and order about 1/4″ under the opening dimensions — our recessed entry guide covers this in detail.
- Surface-mounted: check door clearance and pick a thickness below it; the non-slip vinyl backing keeps the mat in place on hard floors.

How long does coir matting last in a commercial entrance?
It depends on traffic and mat size. Thicker gauges (1″ and 1 1/4″) hold up longest under heavy traffic, and a mat sized so traffic spreads across it wears more evenly. Vacuuming and occasional shake-outs keep the fiber scraping well.
Is coir suitable for fully exposed outdoor use?
Coir does best covered or semi-covered (vestibules, awned entries, porticos). For fully exposed locations, pair an outdoor rubber scraper mat with coir just inside the door.
