  • Five thicknesses: 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1", and 1 1/4" for surface-mounted doors and recessed wells
  • Per-square-foot pricing: starts at $9.50/sq ft and updates live as you configure
  • Natural coconut coir: scrapes shoes clean and traps dirt
  • Non-slip vinyl backing: helps the mat stay put and blocks moisture from reaching the floor
  • Plain coir, cut to size: not a printed, logo, or personalized doormat

Measure once, order confidently

Length is the depth of the mat — front to back as you walk across it. Width is side to side, usually the longer dimension across the doorway. For recessed wells, measure the opening in multiple spots, use the smallest length and width, and subtract about 1/4" in each direction so the mat drops in and lifts out easily.

Because each mat is cut to your measurements, please double-check dimensions before ordering. Need help? Contact us and we’ll size it with you.

How to Measure for a Custom Mat

Surface-mounted mats (sitting on the floor)

Width: measure the door opening and add 2–6″ on each side so the mat frames the doorway.

Length: 24″ minimum; 30–36″ if people walk through without pausing.

Door clearance: if the door swings over the mat, measure the gap under the fully open door and choose a thickness comfortably below it. Most exterior doors clear 5/8″ or 3/4″.

Recessed entries and mat wells

Measure the opening itself, not the old mat — old mats shrink and curl.

  • Take the width at three points and the length at both ends; wells are often slightly out of square. Use the smallest of each.
  • Order about 1/4″ less than the smallest measurement in each direction so the mat drops in and lifts out for cleaning.
  • Match thickness to the pit depth; between sizes, round up — coir compresses slightly underfoot, so standing a touch proud beats starting below the floor line.

How pricing works

Pricing is computed on your exact dimensions: area in square feet times the per-square-foot rate for your chosen thickness, rounded to the cent. The price above updates live as you select your size — no quotes, no phone calls.

  • Recessed & Sunken Entries

Cut to your mat well’s exact opening so the fit looks built-in. Five thicknesses from 1/2″ to 1 1/4″ — including the heavy gauge older recessed pits need — so the mat sits flush with the surrounding floor.

  • Double Doors & Oversized Entrances

One continuous mat up to 33 ft wide instead of two stock mats drifting apart. French doors, patio sliders, grand entries, and porch runs — covered edge to edge with a single clean piece.

  • Commercial Entrances

Lobbies, storefronts, and building entrances: aggressive natural-fiber scraping in heavy-traffic thicknesses, sized to span the full opening. For corridors and very large installs, see our coir matting rolls.

Custom Cut Mat FAQ

What sizes can you cut?

Anything from 1 ft × 1 ft up to 6 ft deep × 33 ft wide, in half-inch increments.

When will my mat ship?

Custom mats are cut to order after you place your order. Contact us before ordering if timing is critical.

Can I return a custom cut mat?

Custom cut mats may be returned within 30 days under our custom-order return policy; a 15% restocking fee may apply. Double-check your measurements with the guide above, or contact us before ordering and we’ll check them with you.

My mat well is out of square — what do I do?

Measure width and length in several places, use the smallest measurement in each direction, and order about 1/4″ under that. The dense coir edge hides minor irregularities. For openings badly out of square, contact us first.

What backing do custom mats have?

A non-slip vinyl backing that keeps the mat in place and protects the floor beneath. Coir does best covered or semi-covered; for fully exposed spots, pair a rubber scraper mat outside with coir just inside the door.

Will a long mat ship rolled?

Yes — coir mats ship rolled. Unroll the mat and let it relax; it settles flat within its first day or two in place.
